About the Event
As part of the Focus Days On Art & Crime, Never at Home curates the group exhibition Transgression. It is an attempt to deal with the possibilities to approach crime in a way that other mediums cannot. This showcase engages with the capacity of art to explore the concept of transgressions in a manner distinct from other artistic mediums. Our conviction lies in the role of art as a universal lens, offering the means to communicate, dissect, and approach the persistent confrontation with intractable global issues, including climate change, resource disputes, and their consequences, alongside the specter of wars and oppression, which permeate our daily existence. These multifaceted challenges often breed divisive, xenophobic nationalisms, leading to societal schisms and regression.
Artists and activists frequently find themselves compelled to operate beyond the confines of established legal frameworks to amplify their voices. We invite contemplation on whether this unconventional path is the sole avenue towards envisioning a more equitable world. "Transgression" directs attention to circumstances that may not be classified as criminal under existing legal paradigms, yet they are subjected to moral scrutiny and filled with paradoxes. This prompts reflection on the identity of the arbiters and the locale where definitions of transgressions are established, and the inherent question of whether the absence of legal categorization itself constitutes a form of transgression.
